Come join 2-time world champion and 2020 Olympian, Ashley Twichell for a morning of learning and fun!
Who: Swimmers between the ages of 6 and 16. What: 75 minutes of instructional learning - drills, stroke work, starts and turns (if applicable). 30 minutes of autographs and pictures. There will also be several t-shirts from this year's World Championships outfitting that will be given away at random! Ashley will be assisted by her brother, Brandon, who was a Division 1 collegiate swimmer. Brandon has been giving swim lessons for over 16 years! |

Ashley Twichell
Born June 16th, 1989
Ashley Twichell swam for Duke University where she became the first Duke woman to break the 16-minute mark in the 1650-yard freestyle event. Ashley earned spots on the ACC-All Academic Team and Qualified for NCAA National Championships where she finished 5th her Senior Year. Twichell, after her college swimming career ended, began to swim “Open Water” events as well as continue to pursue success in pool events. Ashley signed with TYR Sport in 2013 and continues to swim professionally out of Cary, NC – training at the Triangle Aquatic Center. Ashley is a member of both the Pool and Open Water USA National Swim Teams.
Ashley earned her first international medals at the 2011 FINA Open Water World Championships in Shanghai, China: Twichell picked up a Gold medal in the 5k team pursuit and Bronze in the individual 5k open water event. From there she went on to win National Championship titles in the 10k swim at the 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Open Water National Championships, coming back from a period of disappointing finishes in 2013 – 2015 that ultimately resulted in a 2014 shoulder surgery. In 2017 Ashley won her second World Championship Title in the individual 5k open water event at the FINA Open Water World Championships in Budapest. In addition to her individual win, she also scored a Silver Medal in the team pursuit event in Budapest. Ashley also holds medals from Pan American Games and World University Games.
Ashley’s in-pool National Title at the 2018 National Championships (where she became the 4th fastest American All-Time in the 1500 Freestyle event) secured her berth on the 2019 World Championship Team where she finished just off the podium (fourth) with a personal best time in the 1500 pool event in South Korea this summer. Prior to joining the pool team and going her best time in the 1500, she also represented the US on the 2019 Open Water World Championship Team, where she swam the 10k, 5k and 5k Team Relay open water events, also in South Korea. At World Championships Ashley qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Ashley will compete in the Games’ only open water event – the 10k Marathon Swim. At the age of 30 Ashley has become USA’s oldest “rookie Olympian” to qualify for a swimming event since the 1908 London Olympic Games, where only men were allowed to compete in the six swimming events that were held in a swimming pool for the first time ever!
